#TakeThePledge – Meet Kat

04/01/2018

back to blog

Yours Clothing have created a body positive campaign through the form of life drawing to encourage women to love themselves regardless of their shape or size.

Yours Clothing utilised relatable plus-sized bloggers to influence their customers to love who they are and to reinforce that there is no wrong way to have a body.

In the campaign, the bloggers share their heartfelt experiences they have had as a result of being plus-sized. They take us on their journeys of self-love and by participating as the models in a life-drawing class, they intend to inspire women to love every inch of themselves too.

We asked Kat Henry to answer a few questions from why she took part in the campaign to how she felt afterwards.

What was your first impression of the project when you got told about it?

My first impression was a little nerve-wracking to be honest. I don’t really have any issues with being in my underwear in front of people but what made me nervous was the thought that people will see something that I do not see and they will be bringing that to life in a drawing. Being a model you learn all about knowing your angles and how to position your body in a certain way but with life drawing you are not in control of what people see and how they portray that in their art.

Why did you decide to take part in the Life Drawing project?

I was intrigued to see if other people would see what I see when I look in the mirror. I feel that not enough people truly accept that their bodies are wonderful creations that should be celebrated regardless of their shape and size so I wanted to be part of the project to show people that even though you are nervous about doing something, stepping out of your own comfort zone can often be a thoroughly liberating and rewarding experience.

How did you feel after completing the project?

Proud that I took part, seeing your own body in art form is really interesting and it was quite an honour to be involved. The artists were exceptionally talented so it was really awesome to see how they saw us and how they made that come to life in their sketches.

What would you say to someone who is feeling insecure about their body?

You only get one body in life and we all spend so much time analysing it and tearing strips of ourselves. Life is simply too short to hate the body you have. Once you learn to focus on the parts of your body that you love, you will begin to realise that it is a fabulous vessel that you inhabit and maybe in time you will learn to love it all. We all have down days even the confident ones but your body is fantastic and strong and capable of many things, so treat it kindly and remember that self-love starts from within. Let your self-worth radiate out of you like sunshine.

Are there any other comments you wish to make?

Learning to love yourself is a journey and it will be tough and sometimes it won’t feel like it’s worth it, but I assure you it is. When you are having a wobble or you need a friend – I am here and I am always happy to help you in any way I can.
